What's In A Name?

This week I have been reading, Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes.  Toward the end of the book, she writes about taping a show with Oprah at her home in California. Oprah's home is named, "The Promised Land."  Not knowing this, Shonda writes, is like not knowing that the White House is called the White House.

Am I the only person on the planet that didn't know what the name of Oprah's house was?  Then I remembered a show where Nate Berkus completely remodeled Iyanla Vanzant's home and I believe that she had named her home as well.

I'm giving it a try - I have named my classroom, "A Place For Wonder."  This name represents my desire to have students have that ohmigosh moment as we work in our space together.  Each morning, as I enter, I call out "good morning" to our guinea pig, Joey, and to our classroom, Wonder.  It begins the day with both the intention of bringing wonder to children's lives and the positive energy that intention brings into each day.
